# From Siena Station to the Historic Center

The station is in the modern lower town. You have three options to reach the historic center on the hill above.

Key facts

• Bus 9 or 10: 5 minutes, 1.50 euro, drops you at Piazza Gramsci.
• Escalators through the Centro Sociale shopping mall opposite the station: free, 15 minutes, mostly indoor.
• Walk up via Camollia: 25 minutes, steep but scenic.
• Taxi: 10-12 euro, 5 minutes, useful only with heavy luggage.
• No metro, no tram. The escalator route is the best-kept secret for first-timers.

What I tell visitors

If you arrive with a suitcase, the escalator route is genuinely the easiest. The mall has elevators between levels.
