Dieser Artikel ist in dieser Sprache noch nicht verfügbar.
Yes — but the hills are real. Here's what to expect underfoot.
# Is Siena Walkable? Honest Answer for Tourists
Siena is one of the most walkable cities in Italy, but Americans expecting flat sidewalks are in for a surprise.
What visitors ask
How big is the historic center?
About 1.5 km across. You can walk it end-to-end in 25 minutes.
Are there hills?
Many, and steep ones. Especially from the train station up to the center.
Surface?
Cobblestones throughout. No high heels, no rolling luggage on the climb.
Cars in the center?
The center is ZTL (limited traffic) — almost car-free, very pleasant.
How long can I walk per day?
Most visitors clock 12–18k steps daily without realizing it.
Local tip
Stay inside the walls if at all possible. Carrying luggage uphill from the station is the worst introduction to Siena.
