Honest answer: it's a long day. Here's how to make it actually work.

# Siena Day Trip from Rome: Is It Worth It?

Rome → Siena by train is 3 hours each way (via Chiusi). By car: 2h 30. That leaves you 5–6 hours on the ground. Tight but workable.

Better: take the bus

Flixbus and Itabus run Rome → Siena direct in ~3h 15. Cheaper (€12–€20) and drops you closer to the center than the train station.

What to skip if you have one day

Skip the Duomo museum complex (1h+) unless you book the very first slot. Skip the Pinacoteca.

What to do instead

Piazza del Campo + Duomo facade + lunch at a real trattoria + one gelato + Torre del Mangia climb. That's the day.

Better answer: stay one night

Siena empties out at 7pm when day-trippers leave. The 8pm passeggiata is the city at its best. Worth a hotel night.
